Mission work is the backbone of Southern Baptist. Missions are what pulls us together and what keeps us together. This past year that has become evident as we did missions at home and abroad. October 6-19 a team of four from our association went to India to do missions. While there we had the privilege of preaching in a crusade where over two hundred people professed faith in Jesus Christ. These were confirmed decisions as names and addresses were received. The crusade lasted three day with a meal being served on Wednesday night. Over 1,500 were feed as the five and a half hour service came to a close.

We had the privilege of providing shoes, socks and school uniforms for about 125 children in an orphanage. The smiles on their faces were all the thanks we needed. I consider Christmas coming and most of our children will get more than they need and complain about what they did not get while these children was rejoicing over shoes, socks and school uniforms. One little girl told Jan, “This is the best day of my life.” Watching them receive their gifts brought tears to the eye. Many had never had shoes and socks on so we had to show them how to fit their socks. Another child would remove her shoes from the box and the wrapping on them. Look at them and then return them very carefully to the box. She would do the same with her socks over and over again as if she had just received a bag of gold. Our dentist provided tooth brushes for us to take and each child got a new tooth brush. What a joy to see children rejoicing over the basic needs of life.

We had the privilege of seeing some of the pastors in their work setting. To see their church buildings and hear how the Lord was working in them. Some was leading two and three congregations. One was leading five congregations. The Lord is certainly using these great men of God for a special work in a very difficult place.

We had the privilege of sharing with a group Gypsy young people in Hyderabad about full time Christian ministry on Saturday morning before we would return home. There were about 55 people present for this meeting. At the close 16 committed themselves to full time Christian Ministry.

If you would like to know more about our trip give us a call. We will be glad to come to the church and share with you about this amazing journey of the Lord.
